The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the right to question particular decisions from the chair umpire, following the practice already in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move arrives only a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine other situations, such as:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a competitor can ask for.
Practical Application
An illustrative case occurred in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
